Digital Images in the Science Classroom

(This is a digital image of the mentos experiment that was conducted to learn the scientific properties the first week of school.)

Digital Images in the Science Classroom

After reading the article by Randy Bell, I have learned many things about digital imaging in a science classroom. I know that I have used my digital camera before in my classroom, but now I would really like to use it even more. I would absolutely love to get funded to have more digital cameras in my classroom for student use. Each year the district I teach for used to give teachers $250.00 for classroom use. If we are able to receive the money this year, then I may use it to buy some additional cameras for my room. This coming school year 2008/2009 I will be teaching Math and Science to two different groups of students. I plan on completely integrating the two subjects in many differnet ways. I would love to be able to use the digital cameras to take pictures of different science elements and then blow up the pictures on the smartboard that would enable the students to draw and highlight attributes that could be used for math problems and equations as well as teaching a science lesson.
I think that using a digital video would also be a great way for students to learn different science elements. This is a video below that was taken of trout swimming in the creek while in the mountains. I would love to show this to my students and have the analyze how the animals have adapted and survive in this environment.

As from the picture below, it is seen that I took my class to the National Wild Turkey Federation for a field trip. I have some digital photographs that were taken. Next year when we go, I would like for the students to have the cameras and for me to have taught them by the time of the trip, the correct ways to take pictues. This way we could create a photostory for the end of the year program or for studying reasons back in the classroom of what was learned on the field trip. Next year the students will be doing a water study of the pond water that the animals drink out of and it would be great to capture digital photos of the images that they are studying. Then we would be able to bring the field trip back to the classroom and continue what we were learning.

I am very excited about the possibilities of a "Digital Classroom".
